timing belts

Postby cjeffers9 » Wed May 23, 2012 5:24 pm

Ive heard said here that the carb kit from saber cycle are junk , not worth the money. what do you think of the timing belts $37 for two . $120 from my honda shop . looks like 48 to 50 bucks a piece other places. Want to open the covers make sure it hasnt jump a tooth and want to go ahead and change them while im there .

I don't do business with Saber just on principle. But you could ask them who makes their belts and see what they say..probably won't tell you..

Seriously? One of the most important pieces of your engine, a piece that if it were to fail, will pretty much guarantee the destruction of (or significant damge to) your engine, and you want to save a couple dollars by buying a no-name Chinese knockoff belt from Saber Cycle?

Comment on the Gates belts?
How bout USA made
enough said.
Been running them for 22 years in everything that needs a timing belt.
I will not trust my engine to a belt made from hemp twine and ground up tires molded to look like a timing belt

I run Gates belts from NAPA on my 1100, after three seasons riding they look like the day I installed them. I just bought a set for my 1500 that I will install this weekend. 8-)
Ride safe, Todd

Hey guy, guy guy guy...you know what I do for fun, you know those little marks that are there to line the timing up with, I paint [brush] a black background around the mark and over the mark and arrows on the case and the pullies then let it dry, then after it dries I enjoy painting the marks and arrows white so I can see them with ease, having a black background really helps, and be sure to get down level with your marks, might need to lay down a little...Or not... :D You guy's don't need to do this but I did it because I'm a bit different than most.. :D
