running lights

Postby dalez » Wed May 30, 2012 4:32 pm

Have my 81' standard back together and need to know if the rear running lights should be always on or if they are blinker only. The front is both but I don't want to investigate something that may not be wrong.

Thanks

I don't remember there being anything for running lights on the standard except the brake/tail light.
The original rear lights were yellow turn only.
Some would replace the lens with red ones and wire in the park filament.

The DOT law in Michigan is that there can be no amber running lights that remain on, in the rear of any vehicle. Amber lights on the rear are blinker only. If yours are red, I believe someone changed the lenses, and the PO or someone else wired them to be running lights as well. You can pull one of the bulbs, and if it has two contacts on the bottom of the bulb, that indicates it was changed to be running lights as well as blinker lights. If there is only one contact on the bottom, it would be blinker only.
