Sticky 4th on my GL1100

Postby kaao » Thu May 31, 2012 5:38 pm

Just picked up my 82 Gl1100I, runs good but the only issue is 4th gear sticks sometimes, other gears, neutral have no issues. Hoping to get some tips I can check or if it needs shop time. Mahalo's

Yep, use about 4 ozs of seafoam in the oil. Ride for about 100 easy miles, not revving past 3500 rpms. Do lots of up-shifting and down-shifting to work the shifter forks and gears. The seafoam will also help clean the clutch plates and the starter sprag clutch. Drain the oil while it's still warm and replace the oil and filter. I use Delo LE oil myself, but that's personal preference, it helps smooth out the shifting. It also helps to find neutral easier.

Yup, that Seafoam works great, it took about 75 miles + but did the trick, all gears shifting thru & I didn't even know she had a 5th, ha, ha. Changing the oil, filter after my ride, great tip & mahalo's!
