1980 goldwing fuel pump bracket

Postby daaaon » Mon Jun 04, 2012 8:45 pm

Just noticed leak and may be coming from area where fuel pump/tachometer bracket bracket attaches to head labeled # 3 on document supplied. Inside bolt will only hand tighten then release (outside tight). I took the loose bolt out and it doesn't appear to be broken off, its about 3 inches long. The other thing I noticed is bolts appear to be missing washers labelled # 13 on diagram provided

Can I try longer one?
or

Can I remove head cover to inspect threads or is more involved?

Someone has tightened the bolt down too tight and stripped the threads inside the head. You could try a longer bolt. There might be enough threads left inside to allow for this. If not you will need to get a heli-coil kit and repair the threads. The missing washer isn't causing a problem but I would replace it just to insure proper torque when you tighten the bolt down.

Disconnect fuel lines. Disconnect the tach cable. Remove the remaining bolt and pull out.

OK found part number for bolt 96000-06045-02 Bolt, flange, 6x45, is this a 6mm by 45 mm bolt ?

Should I try a 6x50? or 6x55?

The 6x50 is probably too short to contact enough threads. I would get the 6x55. If that is too long you can always shorten it a bit or add an extra washer. You can also measure the depth of the bolt hole and determine if a 55mm will fit. Depth of hole + thickness of spacer, washer and bracket.
