How do I find out my actual Model

Postby k2bertie » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:04 am

Hi, I have a 1980 GL1100, it has the fairing and boxes top back and rear side, I have the frame and engine numbers, but on reg doc no actual model name or number. Also some one had posted a link to a site talking about vin. number of 17 letters and numbers, mine only has 14. I thought it was an Interstate but I have seen since that they have it on thier back boxes mine has HONDA, could mine be an Aspencade? Thanks

In 1980 there were two models of Goldwing: the Standard and the Interstate. The Standard came with no fairings, and the horns were mounted on the sides. The Interstate came with fairings, and the horns were mounted in front of the radiator. If yours has Honda fairing, trunk and bags, chances are it is an Interstate, unless someone took the time and effort to find the various parts and "convert" it. Some Standards also have Vetter fairings and bags, which was an aftermarket vendor.

Also, on the steering head ( goosneck) where the vin numbers are , if it is an interstate there will be an "I" after the model #

Thanks, I will have a look at the goose neck tomorrow, I also think it is original as who I brought it from had it standing in his garage since 1996 and he had brought it to renovate.
Thanks again will let you know.

Interesting...my '82 serial is 1HFSCO212CA206656 and neither repository shows the CO212 catagory.

Fabulous machine...I'm replacing rear wheel bearings this week. I'm unable to find much in the way of dust and oil seals for her DIFF...

175K miles...and I use her primarily for very long trips (cycle couch) and to pull our BunkHouse.
