I got my dads 81 gl 1100 and i pulled the carbs and cleaned and replaced the air shutoff vaulves. Now its back together and i can get it running but when i get down around 1300 rpm it starts running rough and starts slapping the drive chain and will not run under 1100 rpms it dies.. i have set the idle srews to 1 and 1/4 like the manule said and i sinced the carbs. I just dont now werre to go next . Dad said it ran ok when he parked it (8) years ago but it had a little power problem when he had to pull a hard hill or get on it when ridding two up so i don't know if there is more i should be looking at. hoping someone with old school know how with this old bike could help me...

A few ideas. Spark plugs, vacuum leak. I would perform a compression check on each cylinder, if the difference is within 10% of each other should be acceptable. The carbs probably should be totally overhauled. If you can get a set of vacuum guages or mercury guages check the carb vacuum and balance. All different finicky things about fuel delivery to the engine. Good luck; if all else fails read, read and read some more.
sorry i didn't get back to this post but i got it running good. i had missed the idle pilot jets in all the carbs. they were down in one of the tubes in the bottom and coukdn't see them. so thanks for all the help .
