spark plug caps and wires

Postby goldminerusa » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:21 pm

While riding home in the rain recently the bike started missing on cyl`s 2&3, stopped at the traffic light i could see the caps arcing, so my questions are: on an 1100 do i use 12 & 10mm 120 degree or 102 degree suppression caps? With 7mm non-suppression wire and on the coil end of the wires, do i screw the wire to the coil, splice the new and old wires together or do i need to crimp new contacts and where do i get new contacts and do i need a special crimp tool? And, do i need to keep that big rubber insulating? plug the caps go thru? Theres a drain in the plug pockets isn`t there? Z1 Enterprises have GREAT prices on NGK caps and bulk ign. wire. This bike has taught me to have all the ducks lined up before i start anything.

Keep the big rubber. It keeps big stuff out.Clean out the drain hole.It usually plugs up at the bottom.
Screw on new caps and screw into the ignition coil pack, just do then one at a time.
If you use resistor caps,do not use resistor wire.

Thanks and exactly right. I dug out my handy dandy plastic protractor from a previous life and the caps measure 120 degrees. Now i can order new parts for next rain storm. Thanks to all who helped.
