Need wiring diagram 4 1983 gl1100 Aspencade

Postby jimmyjam3262 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:07 pm

I have down loaded all the repair manuals I can find and they all have the wiring diagram for the standard and the Interstate which are different. what I need is for the digital dash so i can find out why mine is not even coming on. I have checked all the fusses and cleaned all the connections the neutral light, the high beam light, Oil light, and turn signal indicators all work but anything digital does not come on

80-83 service manual page 340 is the schematic for the 83 aspy.
This may help.

You need to verify a good ground besides main power and ignition.
Always measure directly at the plug wires.Do not put your meter negative wire on the battery or engine.

Hello, Hey virgilmobile, what manual is that diagram in? Could you e-mail the whole pic?

the manual is right here on this site in PDF form...The schematic is on page 340..

http://goldwingdocs.com/Docs/Honda%20Go ... -78200.pdf.

Let me know if you have problems...the schematic is very large. To get a readable view,I could take multiple screenshots of it and e-mail them....There would be from 6-9 pictures.....

battery is dead, extreme voltage drop, i think the cells got overfilled, the solenoid is acting weird, getting an electric hum from it that sounds like electronics frying, getting 13.48V at solenoid terminals, 0.03V at starter. battery charged for three days at 2A-12V, read 9.27V and dropping JUST off charger, wired battery to bike and charger to battery with it plugged in, heard the hum start trying to start it, jumped terminals, sparks, instrument cluster ran diagnostic, died at terminal jump, returned when stopped jumping them

double checked battery was dead, local auto parts store load tested it, D-E-D, dead. also checked dogbone fuse, no visible cracks, but i think i tested if the fuse was good when i but my meter to the terminals

One good thing to tell about this one; the PO actually put the bike through the storage procedure it's supposed to have done before I got my hands on it  Didn't even know they had that :o

It sounds like all your problems stem from the DOA battery.
Keep us posted.

Will do; an old school honda tech is coming over this weekend for some diagnostic time with the starter itself and the solenoid.

Hey Virgilmobile, so it's gonna be a new battery, new solenoid, and new battery cables. The old battery is DOA, the solenoid is toasted and the battery cables look like they need to be replaced because of how corroded the ends are.

While you wait, inspect the 3 yellow wires and the other plugs for the charging system for corrosion too.

Which wires and what connections? Sorry, the PO wrapped everything in electrical tape, so it's next to impossible to know what is where. The only connector I know of is the pigtail going into the solenoid. Are those the ones you're talking about? Or would it be in the ignition cylinder or the start/kill switch? Thanks virgilmobile!

Actually your close...look to the left of the battery...there are 3 yellow wires..if there still in a plug,at least pull it apart and inspect for corrosion....better yet is to cut the plug off and solder the 3 wires direct....
The regulator module is above that area..under the shelter.
I remove the top shelter(false tank) to access it...
you'll see it right away...about 4" square with cooling fins on it....It has a large 8 wire plug...same thing...any corrosion in there will compromise the charging system...there are a few mods if the system isn't working well,so when you get it running, check the charging volts...14.5 volt maximum at the battery and at 3500 rpm ..4-5 minute warm up....normal range is 13.2-14.4 volts.

Lastly is the starter solenoid....It actually has the bike's main fuse inside the front cover....
It's called a "dog bone fuse" (search this)..and are subject to cracking leaving you stranded...Same thing...I suggest replacing it with a waterproof 30 amp automotive type (large, not mini) fuse and holder.

Sorry, work's been insane lately, thanks, gonna give email a look soon. The one under the false tank, is that supposed to be a black box looking piece sitting by the compressor?

Here's a question for you, virgilmobile; my wing is naked, and i was wondering if having the 9 pin connector unhooked and the green wire "disconnected" (thanks to a pair of craftsmen wire cutters  ) would effect the startability of the bike? Front fairing is thrashed, and headlight was over enthusiastically removed with a five finger wrench... :?

Can you post a picture of this plug and its location.
Also all green wires are grounds.

it's the nine pin connector that plugs into the fairing on the left hand side down by the triple trees, and the green wire was cut on the far side after the fuse, heading inside the fairing. but yeah, i'll post a couple pics tomorrow.

That's ok,I know the plug.
I don't recall any wires in there that should affect the ignition. I think there all just accessory wiring and lighting, neutral indicator, park, turn ,etc.
