Does the 1980 gl1100 come with turn signal cancelling unit? My ride I have to do it manually.

My 80 standard had one.To verify if it's there,a part should be attached under the stem of the lower triple tree.It looks like this when removed.Or look at the top of the steering stem.If it has this part, there will be 3 wires going into the rubber cap.

I don't have the auto off turn signal system,

I am having issue with current one in that with conventional flasher neither work till I rev up motor.
I don't have led bulbs.
I tried electronic flasher and it works except right is intermittent, pushing knob slightly more right works.
I have tried to clean switch, works for a while.

don't know if I want to try another 30 year old switch or alternative (are there any?)

Has anyone taken this apart to clean?

Yea...I've removed every switch on all my bikes for cleaning, resurfacing and lube. It's tedious, small screws, cramped quarters, little springs and some ball bearings for the detentes locks.
Take your time, look close and disassemble SLOWLY and use touch of grease to hold parts in place for assembly.Keep a magnet near to capture or hold loose parts.
On a few,you might find that the base where the wire hooks to has gotten hot and melted. Not to worry,I use a fine file and file the entire plate flat including the brass contact area, lube it and put it back together.
I usually only need a small pair of needle nose,a small flat and phillips,a file(small)grease and dialectic lube.
And your right, another 30 year old switch may not be any better than what you have now.
You may also verify you have good volts to the flasher. It sounds like you have a corrosion problem setting in.Might as well do all the scraping and cleaning now,Especially around the fuses and charging system.
