Fuel gauge isn`t accurate

Postby goldminerusa » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:36 pm

The gauge on my 82 1100 shows 4/5th`s when its full and reserve when there`s still 2.5 gallons still remaining. Can i bend the float level arm to correct this, and which direction?

Don't bend it..clean the contact coil in the sender unit.. take the cover off the box..CAREFULLY..then you'll see the copper coil and the arm that moves along it..dip in muractic acid..50/50 solution with water..wiggle it around for a minute..should clean up if not brush gently. then hook it up up to the bike, hold level and move the arm with your hand..does it work like it should?
