exhaust restriction

i have heard something about honda doing a exhaust restriction on ca. goldwings how do i know if mine is a ca. model and if i take out the rest. do i have to adjust the carbs mine is a 1980 1100 with the 80 mph speedometer

I believe only the 1981 models had the washers welded into the exhaust as restrictors. They can be taken out with a hammer and a screwdriver.

I too believe 1981 was the year the EPA was having fits with California and restrictors, and yes a hammer should remove the plates however, if you have a road side check and they catch you with them out, your butt is in HUGE trouble. I found out the hard way in COLORADO 12 years ago
