Removing fairing vent

Postby k2bertie » Mon Jul 02, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi, as I will repeat what they have all said great decription. But I need help on the fairing vents

I am in Glasgow, Scotlkand, UK and will not be needing one of these, what I am after is how do you replace the air vent intake grills on a GL1100i as mine have got the dreaded rust worm. I would like to replace them with st.st. ones I can make. Problem is I cant seem to be able to get them out without really damaging them, but I do know they must come out so they can be replaced, I would like to get one out to copy in St.st.

Anyone replaced them or know how.

Thanks

They are just wedged in place..you have to pry them out with a flat screw driver or ?? But someone may have glued them in they tend to get loose and fall off so many glue them in place????

I assume you are talking about the ones on the front of the fairing..that feed the louvered vents on the drivers side of the fairing..correct?

Hi, Yes they are the ones, I will give it a try, but quite fragile, and let you know how I get on. Thanks

you might try to put a piece of wood under the screw driver to give you something to lever against and pivot against.

Hi, thanks for all your help, all done and replaced with the st.st. ones I have made, plus shows off the new rad grille that I made to replace the original which also had the dreaded rust worm.
