new GL guy light issue

Postby grghthr » Tue Jul 10, 2012 12:05 pm

[/img]just got my first GL 82 1100 . I love it. this is my third bike I have ever owned and was not sure if I would like it. but it is great very conferrable to ride. I have an issue with the lights . When I start the bike all the lights come on except the head light ,it is on its own switch, but the left turn signal will not blink on its own and when I do it manually it blinks dim unless I turn on the head light then is works fine. any help would be gratefully appreciated.

My 81 Interstate came with the Markland gazillion light package, except mine were all dead. My problem was a previous owner had placed a hand to the lamp wiring. A good winter project was tracing all the wiring, fixing the miswired, replacing connectors, soldiering, insulating, sanding ground points & neatly tying it all up. In my case the previous owner had chiped the top of a luggage marker light lens, which was big enough to let in water, which must have shorted the system. He had isolated, by hacking the wiring, both at the rear & under the faux tank, until the problem was gone. Only the lights needed to pass inspection were working. It was easy to see the broken lens, while my face was down by the lower light bar looking at a cut wire section. He would cut a wire, fold it back on itself, then wrap the loop with tape. Turning the lens so the break was at the bottom solved the water isue, but an what a repair job. Of course now all the lamps work, with LEDs, & the wiring is all neat. Plus I know where most of the wiring goes!

It'll be all good. You'll learn what goes where, so future issues are easier to run down.

get it back to original wiring. sounds like po had a charging problem with all those lights. I would check 3 yellow wire for the fix and body ground. plus battery Good luck :D
