GL 1100 Clutch Replacement Special Tool 86-28301

Postby prc » Sat Jul 14, 2012 12:54 pm

I need to open up my clutch and replace my friction plates and springs.
The Clymer manual tells me to use Special Tool 86-28301 on the locknut.
Does anyone know a way around using that special tool?
I dont have the clutch apart yet, but will probaly start on it in a few days.
Thanks prc

Search google for making your own clutch socket out of an ordinary socket. All you do is notch out a certain size socket to work but I don't remember what size socket. It's easy to make.

Correct tool available here;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20mm-24mm-ID-CL ... 0783225342
This was the first one I came across; there are others out there like the one in the article below (I can't remember where i bought it!)

check this Tech Tip out on my website

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Thanks,
I am gonna hold off on replacing clutch plates for the next coupla weeks, not a whole lot of spare time.
I would also like to find one of those tools at the used price seeing as I will use it once and then never again

For those that don't know for a 75-79 GL1000 its the same tool as referenced in the Ebay Auction above. You need a 20mm - 24mm lock nut socket. There are a tonne listed if you search that term.

the 20/24mm does not fit my 83. Not even close.
