Hand made Timing Inspection Cap's

Post by littlebeaver » Sun Jul 15, 2012 12:58 am

I wanted to share with newer member's here how I make my Timing Inspection Caps myself so maybe you might want to make yourself one, first off I gotta tell you when I put my mind to something I usually make it work....I wanted to make these to sell to members but...But..I had second thought's because of liability issues, or maybe false claims ....I have tested and retested these caps over and over, some of you may even have one.. anyway I used a 3/4 pvc pipe adapter and some 1/4" thick lexan, some all purpose pvc glue..25mm die 1.5 pitch , and a 15/16" holesaw..both were special order items..Hard to find ..What I did was I cut the adapter down to the nut part, sanded the ends, then I sanded down the threads to almost nothing, I rethreaded it with the die, drilled out the lenses with a drill press and the holesaw sanded down the edges some to fit the pipe tightly, applied glue and pressed them down tight on a clean smooth surface, but first before I do that I mark the cross points with a magic marker and I make sure the marks face inside so they are not erased...here are some photo's...

I posted this before a long time ago but I thought the newer members would enjoy it..Fun project and easy to make.. :D

Taking the plunge Little Beaver - I've ordered what I need to make one (if not more). Of course the die is coming from China, so I won't get it for a couple of weeks, but I've already done the timing belts so doing the actual timing check can wait until then.
