7 volt regulator

Post by rthomas » Thu Feb 25, 2010 2:50 pm

I put a new 7volt regulator in my 82 Aspencade and the gas guage and temp. still is not working. What could it be? Is there an inline fuse or could the guages just be bad. Any suggestions.

The first thing to do is to measure the voltage at the screw terminal on the back of the gauge cluster - the one where the spade wire screws onto. Measure the voltage between there and ground while the bike is turned "on" (engine doesn't have to be running, but headlight should be on). You should see very close to 7 volts there. If not, you've got a problem with your regulator, or a connection leading to it.

Is everything else electrical working correctly on your bike?
