Clutch "sticks" ?

1981 Interstate - 81,000 miles
New-to-me 1,000 miles or less ago.

Working towards making this a first class machine and there are a few things that 'bother' me.

As this is new to me I have no real experience with the 1100. I have had a 1200 and now own a 1500 as well however the 1100 seems a breed apart from those bikes. With almost no history of the bike I am trying to figure out the current state of operation. I now know that the Previous owner was lacking on regular maintenance as the brake fluids were very (dry?) low and the oil was also low about quart. Tire pressures were low, and other little things like loose mirrors, were in need of attention.

So here is my questions ---
The clutch lever is really hard to operate. Some have said the 1100 is like that and as I have had other hydraulic clutch bikes it is not comparable. I have cable lubed the clutch cable and it is a bit better, however 2 times now at first start up it feels like the clutch lever is not fully releasing the clutch..the bike 'jumps' when dropped into gear and even starts to pull a bit...Once the bike is warm the problem is gone...

This weekend I plan on changing the oil and seeing if new fluids help...Any other ideas would be appreciated....

My fear - the clutch is going....probably not but that would be disasterous...

Had the same issue...even after, as you, lubing the cable.

Changed the cable. Two finger operation now. ~$25 @ dealer.

Yup. If the cable is going, it's not worth finding out far from home when it breaks, leaving you stranded. Change it out and know that it's good.
