Oil leak?????

Postby bcnv1100 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:33 am

So i have an engine out of one bike and am putting it in another. While i have it out i was cleaning it all up and managed to get it upside down. Now i'm no real mechanic so i'm hoping having the engine upside down wont hurt anything it was only for a minute and i put it right back. Now i know it was leaking oil when it was in the bike and i think i might have found it. When i turned it back right side up there was about three drops of oil that leaked out from the seal right where i circled in the pic. ( not the actual engine). I'm thinking under pressure this might be where the oil was coming from?? Any thoughts? If it is it , is it just removing that part , install new gasket and seal up???

Turning it upside down won't hurt it, as long as you don't try to run it that way. :)

If it is in fact leaking from that seal, all you need to do is remove the rear engine cover, replace the gasket, and reinstall the cover.

Thanks!! When i remove/replace that back cover will i have to re-adjust/set anything or is it just unbolt and bolt back up?? Any ideas on a good place to get a new seal other than financing one at a local honda shop??

Nope, just unbolt, clean gasket surfaces, put new gasket in place, and refasten.

Go to this page at Cyclemax, type in part number 11394-371-306, and you'll have what you need for $32.

It would not be a bad time to see how the clutch pack is doing , while you have that cover off

it's also a good time to inspect your vacuum advance and clean up your spark advancer unit...

Don't forget the other end.Might as well look at the water pump and change the timing belts too.
