OK this is new to me have 82 gl100A charging at 14.7 change regulator that charged at 15.8 already just lost one new battery put old regulator back on it any insight would help have no issues with lights, starts fine runs good . first wing have parts bike no wiring problems

You will most likely find a voltage loss going to the regulator.
If you have a DVM,this can be verified.
Start the bike...put the meter positive probe on the battery positive post,put the meter negative probe on the black wire on the regulator.
A voltage above 0.40 volts indicates a voltage drop in the switched ignition system.
While it's still running,put the meter positive on the battery ground post,put the meter negative lead on the engine block,and then the green wire on the regulator.Each should be 0.00 volts
Obviously,if the ground has any volts on the wires,clean all the ground lugs.
If there is volts in excess of 0.50 volts on the switched wire,use the relay method to operate the regulator.It's here at the bottom of my mods.viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12522
I completed this and supplied my onboard volt meter from the relay and frame ground.My meter now reads exactly the same as the battery.Mine peaks at 14.3 and averages between 13.6 and 14.1.I charge at 4.2 amp with a initial charge rate of 15 amp right after cranking.
