Valve Clearance Adjustment

Postby WeaselSr » Sun Jul 29, 2012 12:46 pm

I have a 83 gl1100. Had to rebuild engine (damaged piston). Got motor together but reading manual very challenging. Book say to " Rotate crankshaft until T-1 mark aligns with timing mark. (did that). Wiggle tappets for cyl. #1 adj. intake (.004), exhaust (.005), Cll. #3 exhaust (.005), #4 intake (.004). Rotate crankshaft 360 then check Cyl. 2 IN.(004.), EX.(.005), Cyl. #3 IN. (.004), Cyl. #4 EX. (.005).". At anytime should I be watching where my Timing marks are?

Need HHHEEELLLPPP???

Just like the book says.Set 2 cylinders on the T1 mark and then rotate the crankshaft 1 full turn to set the other 2.Just set them both on the T1 mark

Be sure to check them 2-3 times after you are done.

The trick is knowing which set of valves to set on each time you turn to the T1 mark. If I remember correctly the #1 cylinder should be a TDC on the compression stroke when you set the first four per the manual. The the next time the T1 comes around the other 4 should be set.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
