Saddlebag weatherproofing

Postby Wingsconsin » Fri Aug 03, 2012 9:46 am

The gasket on the saddlebags is not really very good anymore..
It doesn't seem to fit right, and is coming off in many spots, and looks to have been re-glued by previous owners several times (with poor results)

I am thinking of stripping it all off including the old, excess glue and starting over...

What is your experience with this process ?
Is a new gasket available ?
Or do we need to source some other weatherstripping from the local home improvement store?

Any suggestions on how to do this well and yet afforably?

If you find a good source for those worn out bag gaskets, please, please, let us know where. I've never found any .

I will dutifully track my research and report any success I may have...
I am at this point not very optimistic - if this group has no answers...
But perhaps a new perspective is all that is needed... 8-)

I recall someone here purchasing some off-the-shelf weatherstripping from NAPA that he said worked fairly well. Might be worth going to have a look at a local parts store to see if they have something that would work.

I gave the parts guys at work a piece of my weather stripping. I told them to go on the hunt and see what they could find me. As soon as I know something I know something I will post it.
