1983 rough acceleration

Post by billviera » Sat Aug 04, 2012 8:16 pm

after reading several posts, when riding down the road I have misfire at certain rpm when i choke the carbs about 1/3 the bike seems to smooth out. Is this a carb issue-- and how difficult is a rebuild on the gl1100a carbs?

When I did mine right,I spent 8 hours on them.Removal, detail clean and polish the insides and put back.Synced the next day. They would idle down smooth to 500 rpm.I synced them at 1000 rpm and backed it to 850 when I was done. The bike pulled smooth and hard to the red line.
3 important things.
1.The slides must be butter smooth and shop vac tested before being put back.
I did have a cap that bound one slide.I rotated the cap 180* to fix it.
2.All the slow speed ports must be cleaned. Each carb has 4 or 5 of them. The idle port and small holes right at the throttle plate. They get plugged up.
3.The float level must be accurate.

I always static sync the carbs on the bench first.Adjust the throttle valves to the same(close as possible)opening before you put them on the bike.viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8928.....
