white smoke

Postby hockeystuff54 » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:35 pm

as to my last post ,when i run my wing it ides good and doesnt smoke at all ,after i rev the engine i get huge amounts of white smoke from both tail pipes and oil is dripping out of the overflow ,then if you let go of the throtle and let it idle the white smoke quits ,the bike was blown over in a storm and prior to that this never happened ,is it possible that the cylinders filled with oil as it was on its side, when reving its huge amounts of smoke from both pipes ,anyone have any idea and will to much oil cause this ,it ran really good prior to this

I suspect that if it ran fine before and after laying on it's side and now drives mosquitoes away for a city block, oil has filled around the pistons and rings and will take a while to burn off.

Personally I'd top it off with oil, check the antifreeze level, watch the temp gauge and drive it around the block for a couple of hours or so.
It should be enough to burn most of the oil off and thin out the mosquito population a bit.

Just sitting in the driveway will take half a day, don't stress the motor, just get it up to temp and breathing good air.

Only after that if it hasn't all but gone, would I be looking for trouble.

thanks for the advice virgil .i ran it for 1/2 hour and i believe you were right ,it smoked like crazy so i put it on the center stand and ran it in gear for 1/2 hour,it was full of oil as it was dripping outta the exhaust pipes for awhile,i guess when i filled it i overfilled ,so now i have the site glass clean and can see it,i also put new plugs in and although it wasnt plug fault they were due,its running fine now ,thanks again

Just keep a eye on the temp and oil level.it will take a while to burn it out of the exhaust.you could remove it and flush with brake cleaner if the neibours complain too much
