After market oil level dipstick leak...

Post by newomij » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:51 pm

I love this oil level dipstick placed where the oil drain plug used to be. But, it has a slow drip. After every ride, there is a small (50 cent piece) spot of oil directly under the dip stick. I've tightened it a couple of times but, I've already replaced that front cover from stripping the oil drain plug hole and cranking on it any harder sends chills down my spine. Any tricks I can use? It has the aluminum crush gasket in there now. Will another type of gasket with stand the heat and still do the job?

If you could get the right sized o-ring that would probably sove the issue. o-rings don't have to be umph tight to seal.

Mine didn't have an O-ring, it had a compression ferrule on the dipstick that was pressed into the drain plug hole when it was screwed in place. If yours is the same (and I suspect it is), perhaps it's worn and it's just time to replace that ferrule.
