83 gl 1100 not firing on all cylinders

Postby vaughn » Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:53 pm

My 83 Aspencade has 22,500 miles on it. 3 weeks ago I went for a ride 60 miles away. On the way back it started missing on take off and up hills. Would run good at steady speeds. I got new spark plugs. Gapped them and went for a ride. It ran perfect. The next day it was not running on all 4.
Today I picked up the new plug boots and plug wire I had ordered in at the Honda dealer. Put them on tonight and it starts hard and back fires and won't idle.I made a diagram of where the wires went before I removed the old ones.
Is it possible I don't have them on the coils all the way? You can't see what you are doing under there.

Found the problem. I had the Chrome carb runner covers off and had the screws out. I found that the holes ran clear thru and was sucking air .Put back in and it runs perfect. Runs stronger and lugs better now. Hope my poor 36 mph gets better. Has new timing belts, antifreeze, fuel filter and air cleaner. Carbs will be synched next.
