I have been getting some unusual answers & replies to my posts about my GL1100 and I couldn't understand some of the thoughts behind them as they didn't seem to match up with what I was finding on my own resources and searching....
I figured out today that my PROFILE listed my GL1100 Interstate as a 1982 when in fact it is really a 1980. I have made the correction and apologize if I may have mis-lead anyone. You consideration and patience have been aprreciated.

Well then, that explains it.....What? there is not much difference but the 80 model has the idle jets pressed in and the 81 is the same they are pressed in, on the 82's and 83's you can remove the idle jets using a flathead screwdriver, that's the difference in the carbs...the gear ratio is different, 81 is the same as the 80's I think 82 and 83 are different than 80 and 81...More Highway friendly.. The 80,81,82 don't have linked brakes like the 83, i think someone said some of the 82's did have them though...not sure on that..the wheel size changes from an 82, 83 model, they are different from 80-81's...I'm sure there are other differences but those are some ...I think..I could be wrong..
