Tires for a Goldwing

Postby Gunnar Már » Fri Aug 31, 2012 3:59 pm

I need to get new both front and rear tires for my GL 1100 I´ve been looking at Shinko tires. does anyone of you know those, here in Iceland nobody has the right tires for me so I´ll need to buy them from either Amazon or ebay or something similar.
My sizes are 130/90 17 and 100/90 19 and I´ve been looking at those:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190719991410?ss ... 1438.l2649
and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190721090543?ss ... 1438.l2649

What do you think of them guys are those alright or what.
The speed limit in Iceland is 60 miles and I don´t ride any faster (maybe sometimes for a short time).
Most of the time it´s just me on the bike but sometimes it´s two up but then for a very short time.
I know those tire sizes maybe strange but my bike is a bit special, it´s an 1983 Interstate with a 1986 1200 engine and it has rims from a 1981 or 1982 Interstate, and therefor my speedometer is all f****d up.
I may need the speedometer drive from an 1981 to correct it.
But please tell me what you think of those tires I´m new to the Goldwing world and I just love my ride so far.

Best to all

There are other threads on this topic including installation of tire pressure monitors and alternative balancing techniques which you might also read if you are going this direction.

The front is originally 110 90 x 19 and the rear is as stated for 1980 & 1981.

I just replaced a front Dunlop with an Avon venom and found improved tracking on imperfect paving. Have no experience to help you further.

How did this 86 1200 find itself in a 1983 frame? Any comments you can share about this?

The story about the engine is that sometime around 1990 the bike fell on the right side and there where no engine guards on it and the right side head broke off.
Few months earlier a 1986 1200 Wing got destroyed in a car accident but the engine was in good shape, so that is how it ended in my bike.
I´ve just had it for one month but I´ve talked to PO´S to get the info I need and the whole story about the bike.

I've had good luck with the shinko brand of tires on my bikes from supermoto to cruisers..
I think you will find that they are a good bargin for the money spent.

I just replaced the tires on my `82 1100 standard with Bridgestone S11`s front and rear, same sizes as yours, bought them from www.partsbandit.com, $97 front, $109 rear with shipping. I find greater stability with these over the Metzeler Me880 rear and Lazer front that come off. Haven`t been in the rain yet so i cant comment.
