Center stand has broken!!

My center stand has broken!! When putting it on the stand one day, it leaned over on the right. When I had it checked (since I couldn't get under to see), they told me that the frame where the stand is mounted has broken/split. I asked if they could weld it and they basically told me hard to impossible. Probably while the frame is loaded with the bike...

Anyone have this problem? I really miss the center stand for storage as I travel frequently. I don't winterize my bike since we always get a couple of days a month during the winter that reach 60 or 70 degrees!!

Who's "they" :?: A dealer :?:
If that's who "they" are-few dealers know much about welding. Hardly any provide this service!
Find a good welding shop in you area to "look" at it for you.
Access is much easier by being able to raise the bike up, ala, a table lift!

Last year my '83 Aspencade was pushed backwards by an idiot that "didn't see it" when he was backing from a parking spot. The center stand was broken and the bike was leaning badly to one side. I called a bike repair shop and he said he could weld it for me. Indeed he did and he said it would be good as new. So far, so good. No problems with it. Now, mine is pretty clean and rust free under there so I guess that's helps. If it's really crusty down there that could be a problem. Good luck.

This is a known problem, the two ears that the center stand pivot rotates in corrode where they are welded to the frame, and eventually fail. It can be fixed by a competent welder, as long as the frame itself isn't too badly compromised. Make sure all electrics (including battery & ground points on frame) are disconnected before any welding takes place!
