gaskets for gl1100

Postby lonzo22 » Sat Sep 15, 2012 11:44 am

Help!! I am kinda under the gun. I purchased an engine gl1100 off of ebay it came with a 14 day warranty however it was sent with out timing gear or valve covers. I did a search on valve and timing gear gaskets and ended up on ebay with them selling used gaskets for $ 20 & $10 gl1100 respectively. Any alternatives like felpro that any one knows of? Or is it honda dealer and wait 5 to ten days? As always any help is very appreciated.

Better my OEM gaskets as some of the copies are poor quality and I have had some copy
valve gear cover gaskets that would not fit at all.

You really need Honda OEM for those, especially the valve cover gaskets. Check out http://cyclemax.com/oem_parts you will get them at a pretty decent price.

I'm just not so good at internet shopping. I looked at the cyclemax site for a half hour, and couldn't see any valve cover gaskets for my 82 GL1100I. I intend on adjusting the valves in the spring, and noticed that the PO apparently used the blue gasket goop where the bolts are. Are there seals for these bolts as well? And any help navigating the cyclemax site for the valve cover gaskets would be appreciated.

Try the Manuals section on this website and download the parts and maintenance manuals which will help you a lot. Yes there are seals on the valve cover mounting bolts which tend to perish with time and heat, they are supported by chrome washers which may or may not come with the rubber seals.
Use only genuine spare seals as the others will let you down and riding with oily boots is no fun!!!
