What are these and where do they go

Postby Pam » Mon Sep 17, 2012 5:50 pm

Some of you may recall my son bought a 83 interstate, well the boy finally got time to do the 30 amp fuse upgrade at the main fuse, and now we were trying to get the lower farings on because they were off when he bought the bike but there are two metal pieces which I think go inside the faring lowers, but can't seem to get them to fit. I have attached a pic ot the two pieces so if any one can tell us where they fit on the bike, it would be greatly appreciated

I believe they are radiator baffles, from near the top of the radiator...I'm going by memory though. Someone confirm this?

they are called cowl stays, if you have the parts manual you can find them on page 164 and 165 part #2 and #6 left and right side. arrows show where it bolts on, do it with the fairing removed. 8-)

Thanks Todd I don't have the parts manual but will look in the service manuals for more info. I was trying to make them fit the otherway behind the farings. Dark here now so it will have to wait until morning

Finally got them on, Not a real user friendly job. Had to loosen the faring to get the from portion of the cowel stays in place. They sure do look nice and dress up the lowers. Thanks again guys
