If someone could point me to the thead on hooking up an automotive flaher that would be great.

There's not much to it - I'd recommend using an electronic flasher, as it's both more robust, and you can use it if you change your lights to LED's in future.

You need to remove your false tank, and you will find the flasher underneath it, on the left side, fastened to the frame with a rubber ring. You can use a three-prong or two-prong flasher. I put this one in my 1100, and it works great.
