sputtering problem

Postby aznyaz » Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:22 am

I've had a sputtering problem since I got my bike about 2 months ago. I had resigned myself to taking the carbs off during the winter for a re-build but noticed the other day that there is small leak at the #4 manifold connection to the head. Could this be a possible cause for the sputtering and can I detach the
manifold(s) from the carb(s) without taking the entire carb assembly off the bike for a quick O-ring change?

Yes on both questions-I would remove the air filter assembley-then remove the 4 bolts on the manifold on the offending side-you should be able to move the carbs up just enough to change the o-rings. Let us know how it turns out for you. Regards,Johnyy

So, instead of removing the manifold "elbow" from each carb, your method will allow me to raise he whole carb assembly up high enough to replace the O-rings? (I might as well do them all)

There is a trick to holding the orings in place so they don't fall out, just a tad of vaseline on the oring will hold it in place. it make reassembling it a little easier..
