Clarion type I radio??

Postby t_reister » Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:50 pm

I have a 1981 GL 1100 Interstate with what I believe is a Clarion type I radio. Does the type I have the intercom system with it. The wiring diagram shows two plugs ending that are labeled "Headset". There are no controls on the handlebars. I was wanting to have the intercoms but not sure if the bike supports it. Please help. I have attached a pic of the radio.

It depends on whether or not it has that feature installed. Typically, if you have the CB and headset jacks, you will also have the intercom. Have a look inside the left side of the fairing for a component terminal box with lots of DIN plugs plugged into it. If you have one, you have an intercom.

This will be a shamefull plug for a for Sale item

On our 1980 Interstate was a J & M Integrator System used to add iPod, CB & intercom to the radio.
It looks like what you have as well..

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13290&p=71964#p71964

It is for sale as we removed it to use another system we already owned ...I believe it is all there and worked fine as the previous owner used it up to the day we bought it...
It includes the cords you will need and hoookups required ..
Add the any handheld CB & headsets and you are fully wired...or just the headsets for intercom...
even has the installation instructions...

Reduced price to $100 plus you pay shipping ..( about $20?)

Please pardon the commercial

Hey wingadmin,
I see that I have the 5 pin DIM connectors. Does that mean that the mics will be VOC or can a switch be wired in or can you purchase headsets with a PPT button??

The DIN connectors carry headset and microphone audio only, the PTT switch is not wired into them. Unfortunately.
