FORK Leak or Brake Line Leak?

Postby robertdawber » Fri Mar 19, 2010 11:13 am

So, my brakes feel a bit spongy-I assumed it was the old lines-
I took the fork covers off and found what looks like oil (and dirt) there.
The brace was loose on one side too. Could it be the loose brace caused a temporary oil leak from the fork?

Absolutely - It could cause damage to the bushing inside the fork, which would let things move around enough that they start to leak. If the fork is actually leaking, I would not consider it to be a "temporary" leak, and would take it off to replace the seals and bushing inside. It's not expensive, and it's not too hard to do.

Not yet. :) Haven't had to do my front forks yet - but by the looks of the outer seals, I suspect I might be doing them next winter...

Well, you could always ride to Maine and while you are doing yours I can watch and do mine :D
The manual is not very good for this bike-I find it had to see what little things they discuss (in the photos)
Your work and photos make it simple and straight forward.

I agree - the Honda manual is seriously deficient in the front shock rebuild description. I read through it and thought; "I'm going to have to wing it on this one, because this doesn't tell me much at all."
