GL1100 Starting

Postby mchief » Fri May 29, 2009 8:26 am

Hello, I am a new owner of a 1983 Goldwing GL 1100, really had it about a year. I runs great and I really like it. But there is one thing I don't like and do not understand. It is really hard to start for the first time of the day. I have went through 3 starters on the past year. I know that is not right! :(
So, my question is: "What is the trick or is there something else I need to be looking at?"
Thanks for the help. Great Site!!

That's not right. My 1100 starts right up when cold (even when REALLY cold). It won't start without full choke, and needs some choke for at least a minute or so (depending on the outside temperature), but even if it has been sitting for days, I can pull the choke, hit the starter, and it will start up instantly.

After going through the usual suspects (air filter, spark plugs, check spark strength, battery voltage), I'd look at the carbs themselves. Is the choke working correctly? Is the linkage fully engaging the choke?

I have changed the plugs, bought them at a Honda cycle dealer, along with air filter, fuel filter. The choke does not seem to mater if it on or off. Thanks for the reply.

I had same problem. Some things I have done to help Dont shut gas off..
Rebuild carbs. be shure to put in new Excelator pump. and new air shut off valves. Synk all carbs to #3 carb. If all els fails cary a can of stater fluid.
