NO power 1983 interstate gl1100

Postby prace » Tue Dec 25, 2012 1:53 pm

Had a starter replaced by a mechanic recently, ran great for a few days, then put the key in hit the starter button and all went dark-no power--picked up flat fuses(old style) but found out the main fuse style was changed to push in style when the starter was replaced--disconnected the hot side of battery, pulled it out, pulled the solenoid out, checked the fuse-good but still replaced it, reconnected all and still same results--no power, horn, lights, nothing--never had to jiggle the key to start--battery had 12.74 volts and the solenoid had 12.34 volts across it( hot side and neg side ). Looked at Clymer book and saw in the wiring diagram that there is a 1 amp fuse in the ignition circuit----is this my next goal and where is it.......help

Does anything else work like lights or horn? If not, check the black wire that runs from the battery to frame ground. You may need to clean that connection at the frame.

Do you see +12 volts from frame ground to both sides of the 30 amp fuse?
