Starter Cleaning

Postby patbrandon1 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 11:26 pm

I plan on doing a starter cleaning in the next few weeks on my GL 1100 Interstate. Would you suggest that I order rebuild parts prior to removal? Are there typical parts that usually need replacing when you open the starter up?

Just the brushes and maybe springs... be sure to clean our the slots between the copper pads on the commutator and the clean the surface up too but not with sand paper jewelers cloth or scotch bright pad lightly..you don't want to scratch it at all!!! Be careful when removing the positive cable..hold the inner lock nut securely if you move it you may break it's contact point and it's a bitch to fix.

This may help:
