HI,
I have A 1983 Gl1100, I picked it up not running and I took the engine apart and noticed I had two bent exaust valves.
The guides appear to be ok but id like to replace them anyway. I noticed on the guides there is a clip. No machine shop in
my area will touch this head for some reason. Does anyone have any idea on how these come out? Do I need to boil the head in
hot water or can I drive them out with a brass punch?
Please help!
Steve

Re: GL1100 Valve Guides?
hi Steve,
if you have two bent valves you may also have two damaged pistons. check that out real careful so you will know how much work could be ahead of you. the valve guides are replaceable but it would be a good idea to have the new ones on hand before removing guides that "appear to be OK". the procedure to inspect, remove and replace is in the honda manual starting on page 7-10. it has wear limits for both valve stems and guides and yes the head is heated to about 212 degrees F (boiling) if you do decide to replace.
best of luck,
indianakid

Re: GL1100 Valve Guides?
Thanks indianakid,
I took a good look at the piston it's only a small scuff the valves took all the damage. It looks like a little bit of sandpaper will clean up nice. I'll post some pics as soon as it stops snowing out here.
Thanks!

I looked at the guides again, There is almost no play with the new valves and they look ok. Should I reuse them?
