slow cranking

Postby PapaTater » Sat Feb 02, 2013 5:24 pm

Hello everyone. Newb to the forums but have learned alot from reading your great posts. My issue is that my '81 GL1100 will crank one time then click. I have a brand new starter and a strong battery on it. At first i thought it may be vapor locked so I took the plugsout and cranked it a few times. Nothing came out but it did turn over several times with no issues. I put the plugs back in to give it another shot and same thing, crank once and clicks. Any suggestions on where to start trouble shooting? Your great knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated.

If the starter is good, and the battery is good.....then there is a connection issue. I'd start with the main ground.

i agree, check your connections. also check your cables as they can corrode inside the casing where it's hard to spot.

Check volts at the battery. if less battery issue, if 12 plus then something else, at the starter stud under load..under 11 not good check connections and cables..if good there remove and clean the starter??? Or something is making the engine too hard to turn over.
