speedo repair

Postby bjanz » Sat Feb 02, 2013 11:21 pm

The trip reset knob shaft disconnected inside my speedometer and the digits are leaning to one side, so I thought I could do a repair, but I can't get it open. Is there a trick to taking it apart without doing damage?

http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyE ... NLK:MEWNXI have a 82 Aspencade. The needle fell off the speedo gauge. Found an entire cluster tach speedo coolant and fuel on ebay for $60. Cheaper and easier than trying to fix the speedo

You have to cut the chrome ring to take the speedo apart, some have been able to pry it up and off..but there are how to's some place on Saunders or NGW sites I think..maybe here too??? But as said buying a emplacement is probably easier..and then you can experiment with repairing the old one?????

The main reason it's hard to get inside, is to prevent you from changing the miles, but it sounds like the damage is already done to the odometer. I agree, pick one up on e-bay and keep the old one for proof of low miles, if you get one with lower miles then the old one ???? Good luck Bob

The one I have is the second one already and it has 30,000 more than the bike does. I will see what I can get on ebay. The trip meter is the only thing broken, so I am not in too big a hurry. Plus, riding season doesn't start for another 3 months:(
