Dunlop Elite 3 opinions?

Postby CDub73 » Sun Feb 10, 2013 6:13 pm

I am looking at getting a new set of tires before this riding season and one of the local shops recommended the Dunlop Elite 3. It is a bit more expensive than Avons, metzlers or Michelin but the shop says they can be expected to last twice as long. Does anyone run E3 and what is your opinion on these tires?

I think saying they will last twice as long is a bit of a stretch. I prefer the Avon's on my 1500.

I recently put on new tires and here is my experience with all the research I did to make my choice. I believe the Elite 3 will get 10,000 miles on the rear tire, and more on the front. Avon's best set will get about the same. The Elite 3 combo at Motosport.com is around $300.00 before shipping. The Avon Venom (AM41/AM42) is around $320.00. I don't believe the Dunlop will wear twice as long at all. I have run both Dunlop, and Avon, and can't tell you one is better than the other. I run Shinko tires now, and love them.

My 1500 came with E3's on it. The front was horribly cupped. I upgraded to Avons. :) I also put Avons on my 1100, and they were fantastic.

I'm pUtting on an E3 tomorrow on the rear of my 82 1100i. Got 25,000 from my last one. Just doing the rear tomorrow, expect to get another 5,000 on the front. My wear bars are just getting up right now on the rears, still good on the front.

I'm not a very aggressive rider but I do about 75 miles a day commuting and do some 2 up riding
As well. I expect you will be very happy with the E3. They were also the least expensive from Chapparel Motorsports in San Bernadino, ca. Cycle Gear will do the mounting and balance tomorrow for $30.

I have run E3 on my 1500front and rear, I wouldnt put another set of them on even if YOU bought them for me. They are a horrible wet weather tire, they cup quickly, make that annoying UFO sound when you lean them over. I wore out a new front E3 in 5 months of riding. I had Avon Venoms on my 1100 and loved them. they had Light neutral steering, ran quiet, good traction wet or dry even leaned way over.
I have a Darkside tire on the rear (Austone)that I am very happy with, I think that I am going to go with the Avon for the front this time 8-)
Ride safe, Todd

I personally love the E3's and I find them to be real good in the rain.Didn't think they would be when I first laid eyes on the tread pattern, but I've logged a fair amount of miles in the rain(2-up) and never felt that they were unstable. On my 3rd or 4th set since they came out.I set on the 1200 Aspy and the rest on the 1500.

P.S. Yeah they sing a bit in the corners after some miles, but the radio overcomes that pretty easily.

If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.
