What model do I have?

Postby Slabghost » Wed Mar 31, 2010 8:08 pm

New to the forum and GWs. I just brought my new to me baby home last night. VIN SC022006547 is this an interstate or a standard. I'm guessing standard as I've no badges for Interstate or Aspencade. I hope to learn a lot here and maybe help others as well. I'm not new to bikes or riding just bigger tour bikes. My Lord this is a beast to push!

Aspencades didn't come out until 1982. If yours has fairings and bags/trunk, it's an Interstate. If it doesn't, it's a Standard.

OK I'm thinking I likely have a standard upgraded to interstate. The original headlight bucket is still mounted behind the fairing and the bags are Vetter. Thank you for clarifying.

If you have a Hondaline fairing, the headlight bucket should be replaced with a weight. The Aspencades with Hondaline fairings had an approximate 5 lb weight bolted in place of the headlight bucket - people have only guessed why, but general consensus is that it is there to compensate for high-speed wobble caused by fairing dynamics. You might want to source one from a used parts dealer and put it on there.

It sounds like you have a standard. Does it have Honda on the shelter (fake tank sides)? It should.

The tag on the LHS of the forks will also tell you.
GL1100 = standard
GL1100I = Interstate
GL1100A = Aspencade
