tach cable

Hi guys has anyone ever changed the oil seal on the tach cable drive gear? i tride to pull the gear out of the housing but its super tight, so i gave up. (afraid of breaking it) any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make and model of the motorcycle in question would be helpful. Is this even a motorcycle you're talking about?

While I've never changed one, looking at the parts breakdown I'd say you just pull the seal not the entire drive. It looks like the drive is held in with a "collar" and a washer. See if you can carefully insert a small screwdriver between the drive and seal and lever it out. Then clean the drive, lube the new oil seal and carefully reinsert it. You may hve to gently tap it in with a wooden dowl or find a socket that fits it and use your small hammer on the socket to gently tap the new one in place.
