Postby eveready » Tue Mar 05, 2013 4:45 pm

Can anyone tell me where the head light relay is on a 82 Interstate? I can't find it on the wiring diagram. I have no power to head light or dimmer switch. fuses are all good. If anyone can help it is app.

there is no relay for the headlight on an 82. check the fuse, check the ground, check all the related connectors or you have a bad swithch.

Have checked fuses and replaced just to make sure. No power at the switch, so it's before that.

head light should have 3 wires, green going to ground, white for low going to to switch, blue for high going to to switch. from switch, blue/white to starter switch. from starter switch red/black going to fuse. has to be in there somewhere. i assume your bulb is good? is there power to the fuse?

yeah, i know. what the hell were they thinking? yes my wiring diagram says system runs through the starter switch. 4 wires, bl/wh to dimmer, r/b to fuse, r/y to starter relay, black to regulator/rectifier. black also goes to ignition. after looking at my diagram, black is also wired to ballast resistor thru kill switch. if your fuse is getting power and bike runs normally otherwise, i would suspect the wire going to dimmer switch is bad or a connection. verify power on r/b wire from fuse to starter switch, then bl/w wire to dimmer.

Will check it tomorrow. The kill switch don't work, the PO might have messed with it. He had the head light wired to the running lights, so every time you put blinker on light went out.
