piston sizes on left and right front brake calibers

Postby marcsac » Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:34 am

Guys,

Can one of you experts clarify something for me please....are the pistons on the right and left front brake calibers different sizes? (83 Interstate) When I ordered the piston and dust seals, I saw on the fisch that they had two different part numbers. I just received them and the seals are two completely different sizes, but the calibers themselves look identical from the outside mounted on the wheel.

I know the right side caliber is a "unified" system connected to the pedal and back caliber, and the left is connected to the front brake lever. I don't want to start the front caliber rebuilds unless I know I have all the right parts.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle :)

yes, piston and seal sizes are different for left/right calipers. there is a really good writeup on how to rebuild in the diy section here.
