Any recommendations?

Post by Fulcrum » Thu Mar 14, 2013 11:44 pm

Well since I have the tank out and am about to pull the carbs any recommendations for what I should do as maintenance or preventative measures since everything is pretty easy to get at now? Taking all suggestions.

The bike has been sitting for a long time and the tank was rusty. I'm also going to pull the carbs and clean them up.

I'm using stuff called Metal Rescue to clean the tank. It only takes 24 hours and just eats up rust and is safe on everything else. I highly recommend it. Decided to replace my rear reservoir to MC brake line. Any suggestions on preventative maintenance while she is all apart? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would change the o-rings and gaskets on the crossover pipes, replace the thermostat, and the radiator hoses-even if they look o.k. While your at it- flush the cooling system. Regards, Johnyy

The crossover pipes flow coolant into the heads-They are located between the intake manifold, on top of the engine, o-rings and gaskets tend to deteriate over time.If you replace the thermostat-you are looking at the croosover pipes.Just a fancy term for coolant lines! Regards, Johnyy
