Miss when cold

Postby warnett » Sat Mar 16, 2013 1:50 am

1982 Asp When cold starts fine but rather then calling it a miss its more like a hit. I believe 1 cyl not sure which does not want to fire when engine is cold. One of them is not fireing everytime it should. As the bike warms up it starts hitting more and more till solid. Any ideas where I should start. Plugs have been changed.

test all 4 plug wires to make sure they are firing. if you still have the old plugs, pull the boots off the new ones and leave them in place. insert old plugs into the boots and let them rest on the valve cover or anywhere you can get a good ground. look for fat blue spark. i'm thinking the carbs need cleaning but this is a good place to start.

i know where i would start.......

let it warm up and ride !!!!!!

if all else is good and fuel mileage is where it should be and all it takes is a few minutes of warming up I'd say you have a fine wing. put some miles on it. by the way what is the mileage????

My GL1200 does this when cold, but after it warms up it runs fine. Fuel mileage is good and no leaks, I'm guessing the carbs may be due a good cleaning and they are just a little out of sync. For now as its not fouling the spark plugs I'm going to let it warm up and as stated above then ride it.
