carb strainer

Postby trashtruck » Thu Mar 21, 2013 6:45 pm

hey all. pulled carbs today because #2 started flooding. went to start cleaning and discovered none of my carbs have the strainer that's supposed to be under the float needle. how bad is this? bike has been running fine till recent flooding issue. this is on an 82 interstate.

Wow I bet that was a surprise.... It's that plastic screen cylinder looking thingy right, all of them are gone, Wow  It's just a filter I think, tiny particles get caught in there I don't know what other purpose it serves...the guy that had the bike before me had two fuel filters hooked up the the fuel line, Oh joy..

yea, i was hoping to not have to mount a filter for each carb, since my local dealer wants 45. and tax each for kits.

There's only one fuel inlet for the carb bank, so only one fuel line mounted filter is needed. The float valve filters only catch what isn't caught by the upstream filter....which shouldn't be anything.
