Is this a brand new bike to you? Or have you had it for a while and it's just started doing this?

A carb sync might help, and I've read in a lot of places that the idle air adjustment being off can cause this inward backfire...

Popping in the carb......Hmmmm
The engine breathes in fuel mixture, seals off with the valves, blows it up and exhales out the exhaust.........

So what would cause a pop in the intake......

There should be only a draw of air/fuel into the engine...never a exhale back through the carbs.

If it pops in the carb for sure and not in the exhaust, look very carefully at the timing belt marks and valve adjustments....If all is perfect then the next step is a valve leak test.

A sticking valve,broken inner valve spring,burnt or poor sealing valve,mis-adjusted rocker..etc etc.
