Postby tdholloway » Thu Mar 28, 2013 2:36 pm

I wanted to find out if anyone has a different stereo on their bike other than the stock stereo? If you do what kind do you have and how is it?
I ask because mine didnt come with one when I bought it and I want to put one in.

Thanks,
Tom

Lots of people have installed aftermarket automotive stereos in their 1100's.

I put in a cheaper Boss brand in my Vetter CycleSound. I wanted knobs for volume and tuning, but that is somewhat hard to find on these newer aftermarket units. Also the LCD displays that are all "nifty" showing your bass, treble, time etc... are hard to read in the daylight. It seems Pyle makes a cheap unit with knobs, I might go to that someday because pressing tiny buttons wearing gloves isn't too easy.

When I purchased my 1100, it had a cheap jvc cd player which works well. However the LCD backlight does not light up. This makes it impossible to read in the daylight. I've heard it has something to do with the stereos ground wire. Since I did not install it, I am not sure how well a job th PO did.

A lot of cheaper stereos like you may have, have a separate "light" wire, that is intended to be hooked up to the dashboard lighting circuit in your car. That way, the radio lights up with the rest of your dashboard when you turn your headlights on.

For the bike, that wire should just be connected to the normal switched power, so it lights up when the bike is turned on.

I had the same idea here, the white plug is USB input (ipod) 8-)
car stereo in left pocket
car stereo in left pocket

a little ABS plastic and ABS glue makes it secure and almost factory looking. 8-)

Ride safe, Todd
Over night campers welcome
